Song of the Day - Madness - It Must Be Love

1 min read

I love Madness. They're so quintessentially British. I may pick more from them. This particular song was one of their big hits but I never knew before it's actually a cover of a song originally by Labi Siffre. Who knew? Well Wikipedia did.

Just for my old Warwick Filmsoc friends here's the version as it appeared in the movie The Tall Guy.

Song of the Day - Mike Oldfield - Moonlight Shadow

Because he didn't JUST do Tubular Bells. Featuring Maggie Reilly.

I showed Catherine this video and she wrinkled her nose and said, this must be really old from like the 60s or something.

Because I spent WAY too much time bouncing around the living room to this song as a kid.

Song of the Day - The Boomtown Rats - I Don't Like Mondays

Perhaps a bit controversial this one. The blog post I shared yesterday by Vic made me think of it. Also Laura Gosling's pick today and her mention of the part in the video that gets to her. I treasure any song that provokes an emotional reaction in me. This one always has, still does. More so now that I have kids of my own.

Oddly I think the video actually reduces the impact of the words. If you don't know the song then, firstly, wow, and secondly - I'd suggest listening without watching.

Great british rock back Magnum are still soldiering on and making GREAT music. Here's the opener from their latest album to show that they still kick ass.

Song of the Day - Xuefei Yang - Plum Blossoms in the Snow

It's snowing outside! So I couldn't help picking something snowy. This particular track is gorgeous. I discovered Xuefei Yang when we printed tickets for one of her concerts. In case you weren't aware our family business is Performance Ticket Printers. So I spotted these tickets and was curious. So I googled her and Xuefei Yang is a guitarist. This particular track is one of my favourites of hers.

Song of the Day - Chris Rea - On The Beach

This is the title track of an album that I listened to a LOT on the beach in Algarve as a kid. It was just so sunshiney. Lying in the sun with this in my ears was bliss.

This is the original version, by the way, which is MUCH better than the crappy New Light Through Old Windows version which removed all the sunshine.

Song of the Day - Rush - Manhattan Project

I'm going to a Microsoft developer conference tomorrow so in honour of that I'd picked a song off Rush's Power Windows album. See what I did there? :)

So yeah this is one of my favourites from that album. I love the whole album to be honest. This one just provokes my fascination with WW2 as well.

W.E.T. is a band made up from members of Work of Art, Eclipse and Talisman. Hence the name. Great melodic rock. Hope you like it!
